was really a real live bear cub? It's true! During the First World
War a Canadian soldier named Harry Colebourn bought this small
bear cub for $20.00 from a hunter that had killed his mother.
The soldier named the bear Winnipeg, Winnie for short, after his
hometown of Winnipeg located in Canada. When the Soldier went
into War he loaned the bear to the London Zoo where he lived until
1934.
Winnipeg became the favorite animal of one special little boy
named Christopher Robin who visited the zoo often. In fact he
was such a special friend to Christopher that he renamed his own
teddy bear, who was already named Edward Bear, to Winnie the Pooh.
The name Pooh came from a swan at the zoo that was also a friend
of Christopher's.

Robin by his Father A. A. Milne, but soon they were being read
by children everywhere. The first Winnie the Pooh book was wrote
